Usé una flecha para matar a la araña.
Usé una aplanadora para aplastar al gusano.

Para las hormigas organicé un ataque aéreo.
Abeja que encontró su camino atravesando el tejido:

soplete.
Con los mamíferos fue más fácil—

un balde con agua para sumergir al gato,
una palabra envenenada arrojada al perro.

Para el amor sólo un fósforo. Eso y una
cocina perdiendo gas

y esperar hasta que la cena
estuviera buena y quemada.

I used an arrow to kill the spider.
I used a steamroller to flatten the worm.

For the ants I called in an air strike.

The mammals were easier—

a bucket of water for submerging the cat,
a poisoned word thrown to the dog.

For love, only a kitchen match. That
and a stove leaking gas

and waiting until the dinner
was good and burned.
